Optimized PDF = Downsampled Images (72 DPI) + Flatted Layers + Subset Fonts
The primary bulk of a PDF is usually high resolution print images. Downsampling 300 DPI print graphics to 72 DPI screen resolution instantly sheds megabytes of unnecessary data.
ベストプラクティスとガイドライン
- Know Your Target Medium: If a PDF is destined for professional offset printing, never compress it. If it is destined to be read on a smartphone or emailed, aggressively compress it to screen resolution (72 to 144 DPI).
- Flatten Interactive Elements: Forms, annotations, and multi layered vector graphics add significant hidden bloat. Flattening the PDF bakes these elements into the page, saving space and preventing accidental edits.
- Use Vector Text When Possible: A scanned PDF (where the text is just a giant image) will always be massive. A native PDF (where text is rendered via fonts) is infinitely smaller and fully searchable.
よくある質問 (FAQ)
Why is my PDF still huge after compression?
If your PDF is primarily text and vector shapes, compression will do very little. Compression works by shrinking embedded photos. If there are no photos, there is nothing to shrink.
Will compression ruin my text quality?
No. Standard PDF compression targets embedded raster images. The actual text characters (rendered via vector font subsets) remain mathematically perfect and infinitely scalable.
Is it safe to compress legal documents here?
Yes. Because the entire optimization process happens inside your local browser memory using WebAssembly, the actual contents of your document are never transmitted over the internet.
